Responsibilities - The Web Application Support Engineer will:

  • Demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills for all tiers of a web applications including general LAN/WAN configurations; web servers; application servers; database servers and all interactions therein
  • Deploy patches and new releases of applications on a Unix and Windows environments. Scripting, configuration of application components and environments, testing, documentation of activities.
  • Work to apply best industry practices around IT service support
  • Provide day-to-day technical and functional expertise
  • Document processes and configurations

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in development, operations or support groups (2-3 years)
  • Experience working as an web application support or application deployment specialist with Systems Administration background (1-2 years) preferred
  • Experience in administration, maintenance or support of Java-based Web Applications running on WebLogic, JBOSS
  • Experience with the following applications:
    • UNIX (Sun Solaris 8, 9 specifically) and Microsoft Windows (2003 specifically) platforms
    • Oracle and/or DB/2
    • Apache, Oracle 10g AS, SunONE, Tomcat
    • Unix (Bourne Shell) or Windows Shell, Perl and SQL Scripts
  • Ability to clearly communicate in writing, visually, and verbally is important
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science/Information Technology

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Understanding of Java development in a J2EE environment
  • Experience in maintenance, management, deployment and/or monitoring web-based applications, such as eCommerce sites, portals (Liferay, WebLogic, WebSphere, Vignette, etc.) or large scale content management systems
  • Experience installing, configuring and maintaining Application Servers, especially BEA WebLogic, IBM Websphere or Oracle 10g Application Server; familiarity with more than one preferred
  • Successful completion of one or more certification programs, including Oracle 10g AS OCA/OCP; MCSE or MCP (Windows 2003 Server); BEA Certified Developer, Administrator or Architect; IBM CSA (WebSphere AS); Certified JBoss Administrator or RHCE.
