Senior Database Administrator
Alexandria, VA

Main Roles and Responsibilities:

The primary role of this position will be to design, maintain, and support both production and development databases in a 24x7 environment. The DBA is responsible for the overall health, availability, recoverability and performance of these databases. The DBA will work very closely with the DataArchitect, ETL and Application development team.

Core Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in 24x7 operational on-call rotation scheme for production support
  • Provide operational support to maintain production databases (e.g. Backup/Recovery,tuning,etc)
  • Provide development and design support of Oracle databases to dev teams involved in application development, testing and implementation.
  • Prepare status reports to accurately communicate progress; provide early notification of problems that could affect schedules, or the integrity or availability of data.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of IT experience.
  • 6+ years experience in managing relational database systems with at least 4 years supporting Oracle platforms
  • 5+ years experience with Solaris & Linux Operating systems
    • Backup and recovery utilizing RMAN
    • Data Guard configuration, Replication, Streams and AQs
    • Advanced SQL optimization and Database Tuning
    • Upgrade and migrate databases across various versions and platforms
    • Grid Console, DB console setup and administration
    • 10g/11g RAC setup, maintenance a plus
  • Experience handling Large RDBMS
  • Experience with a data modeling tools
  • Knowledge of ETL and reporting tools (e.g. Pentaho,Informatica, Microstrategy,etc)
  • Excellent programming and scripting skills (PL/SQL, Shell, Perl)
  • Knowledge of Java platforms and middleware (e.g. JDBC,Jboss,Weblogic,Toplink,etc)
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Strong conceptual and analytic skills

Travel Requirements:

  • 5% (as needed to remote locations)
